Dear Newboldians,
I trust you all had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed your New Year's celebrations. It is customary to look back at the year that has just passed and also to look forward to the year that is to come. I can definitely say that 2014 has been a particularly meaningful year for me, having completed my first year as your Headteacher. This first year has not been at all what I had expected it to be; no indeed, it has been so much better, not least because of the amazing encouragement I have had from a forward-thinking, cohesive team of colleagues and supportive parents. I couldn't do any of the things I do without all of you behind me, and I truly appreciate the positive 'can-do' attitude that runs through the veins of the school at this crucial time.
And how could I look back at 2014 without mentioning the amazing triumph of our children's various music and drama performances, culminating in the Christmas performances. If any of you wish to watch the choir's performance for Princess Alexandra for the hundredth time (as I have done) you will find it will remain on the school website. It has been a proud year for us.
Last year we gained three brilliant new teachers - Mrs Proud and Miss Walton in Year 3-4 and Mrs Chilvers in Year 1-2. We also welcome Mrs Keren Milanovic, who joins Mrs Chilvers in Year 1-2 in January. We are truly blessed to have such gifted and talented people on our staff. I am always touched and encouraged by the dedication of Newbold teachers and their sound knowledge of the children in their care.
We have seen the transformation of our Board of Governors, which has led to greater efficiency in the running of the school in general, now that there are sub committees to focus on the main areas of school life. We have a hardworking group of dedicated governors who are prepared to work closely with us towards improving our beloved school. Our future looks decidedly more rosy as a result of these changes.
The introduction of a new kilt for the girls' winter uniform has been a great success. The children look smarter and are generally better presented. This coming year will also bring changes for both boys and girls in our summer uniform to ensure the children are comfortable in warmer weather whilst remaining smart and able to take pride in their appearance. The colour of the blazer is still being discussed, so if you have strong opinions on whether it should be navy or maroon, please talk to either myself, Mrs Gungadoo or Mrs Bold. I shall be receiving some samples from Skoolkit very soon so you can view them.
As for the coming year, I make no New Year's Resolutions, but rather look forward to continuing to work hard to help our school become even stronger than it already is. There is nothing we can't achieve together through the grace of God, a harmonious working relationship between all of us and a love for our children.
All that remains is for me to wish you all a Happy and Blessed New Year.
God bless you all,
Mrs Crissey
